Not too long ago my place of employment had some kind of content filter installed to block out inappropriate web sites.  My boss apparently had a tough time getting it to cooperate, because it would pop up a message box with warnings about blocking content that was completely unrelated to the site you were looking at.  The thing that was interesting is that a few, if not all, of the times this happened the category of filtered content was something like \"Pornography & Recreational Nudity\" or \"Adult Content & Recreational Nudity\".

Has anyone ever seen something like this before?  It just strikes me as odd that \"Recreational Nudity\" is explicitly singled out there, as if to cover anything that doesn\'t fall under \"Sex\" or \"Pornography\".  I\'m trying to figure out why this is, but can\'t really come up with anything.  Maybe because non-sexual nudity can still be sexual in the eyes of the viewer?  Or perhaps it stems from the mainstream view that nudity and sex are the same thing?

I have no idea if this particular content filter system is strictly commercial or if it\'s available to your everyday consumer, too, but I guess it could also be something to do with perceived sexual harrassment in the workplace (looking at nude pictures could be considered suggestive to other employees).  To be honest, though, looking at nudist websites is probably something best avoided at work, particularly if you don\'t have a lot of privacy.  Still, it just really seems weird that nudism gets it\'s own little category within this filter system.  Any thoughts?

Interesting... I am wondingering if this is so because of of the negative image nudism has via the net. There are a lot of grea legitimate sites like this one for instance, yet if you do a google search on \"nudism\" or \"naturism\" then some results come up that are nothing more than a bunch of porn websites. Even some that feature nothing but non-sexual nuide pictures are defiantly operating for all the wrong reasons, which could be a big contributing factor in why the filter would try to block out all things nudist related. I rember back in high school - YNAI as well as my old website were not blocked at one point, but were by the end of the semester.

Hi All:

Well if your at work why would you be looking at sites like that?

IS that what your being paid for?

Bri

I wasn\'t looking at sites like that.  These were computer technology-related sites, and, yes, they were pertinent to my job.  For some reason the content filter was mislabeling and, as a result, blocking them.
