Yeah or even people who know them.  I have a great-great-great grandfather who fought for the Union during the Civil War, and was captured and sent to Andersonville Prison Camp in Georgia.  Of course he died long before I even took an interest, but my great grandmother (who recently passed) was a little girl and knew stories that her family had told her of when he came back after everyone had written him off for dead.  Also she had a old family portrait with him in the center of the pic, and in the bottom left hand corner was a little 4-5 year old girl, sure enough that was my great grandmother.  So it was nice to get to talk to her about those stories before she passed.  Not as good as a 1st person account, but not too shabby for a war that happened over 140 years ago!

Mine's pretty extensive, My mother, father, stepfather, 3 stepbrothers, my sister, her husband, 2 of my grandfathers, 3 of my great grandfathers have all or are serving in the Canadian Forces.  I'm an officer in the Canadian Navy.  Through my mother's side that's four generations in Canada, and possibly more in Switzerland before that

Lemme think. My dad, and grandfather were both Navy men. That grandfather was in the Korean War. My dads ship was staked outside of Libya's waters the first time we had trouble with Qiddafi. My other grandfather (who I never knew) was in the British Army. He served in WWII, I think, maybe even WWI, (he was almost 60 when my mom was born). My uncle on my moms side was drafted for Vietnam. I think that's it. I don't have a desire to serve, just not my deal, but I'd 100% support anyone who wants to, especially my future children.

I've had some family members in the service and fight in wars.  My cousin was a Navy Seal, and I was a chemical equipment repairer in the Army for six years.
