I'm from Edinburgh, our claims to fame

Birthplace of geology
Charles Darwin's education
That big bridge they're about to stop painting
James Clerk Maxwell
Sean Connery
The Enlightenment
A really cool castle
A mountain in the middle of a city
The Edinburgh Festival
Bodysnatchers!
David Hume
And of course, me  Cheesy

Plus it has the honour of me being there, pursuing my further education   Tongue

I saw a program on the History channel here a few months ago about the ancient underground city there!  I was fascinated.

Yes, I went with some friends on an underground ghost tour a couple of years ago.

Don't think it was this one, but sort of similar :

My closest city has a few claims to fame......

Birthplace of the Beatles and Merseybeat
Home of the greatest football team in english history
If you want a Cathedral we've got one to spare (a lyric from an old song coz we've got two Cathedrals)
Girls who glow orange and go out shopping in their PJ's
The worlds first and largest single span, non combustive warehousing/docks......OK, that's boring.

If you haven't guessed yet, I'm talking about the world famous, utterly amazing, European Capital of Culture........Liverpool.

The late night ghost tours are great fun. When I went on it they had people dressed up as vampires, werewolves, etc jumping out at you when you were down in the vaults. They were often led by a guy dressed up as dracula. On one occassion, when I was slightly "refreshed" and staggering home about 11pm, I turned a corner (Edinburgh has a lot of small, narrow, dark corners) only to come face to face with Dracula.  Shocked

My city's claim to fame? Hmmmmm.... well, um.... hold on a minute.... I have to think a minute.... Minneapolis doesn't really have a "claim to fame", although the Mall of America is down in Bloomington. If you're into shopping all day long and wandering around aimlessly in a mall that I don't even think you can see in one day, then there ya go.....

Personally I hate shopping..... how shocking is that coming from a girl????? Shocked Shocked

We're also famous for a baseball team that recruits young talent, builds that talent, then once the player becomes a star we can no longer afford them so they get traded to big money teams like Boston and New York.  But I'm a fan anyway.  Go Minnesota Twins!  Can't wait for the season to start.

We also have the corporate headquarters of General Mills aka Pillsbury aka Betty Crocker aka Yoplait aka Haagen-Daz aka Green Giant aka Old El Paso aka etc....

Charles Lindburgh was from St. Paul. Prince and Bob Dylan have some sort of connection here.

Hey jason and christine, dont forget about best buy, and dairy queen headquarters, plus spam is really big here as well. Oh and we cant forget about the most famous senator in the U.S. soliciting sex in our mian airport bathrooms. Now the airport is a tourist attraction and everyone wants to see the bathroom where it happened.

Sydney: Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, Mardi Gras.

Many many more for both.  Smiley William

yes, many more. The beauty of the Blue Mountains, those are just west of sydney. We hosted the best olympic games ever, so said the IOC Chairperson (Juan Antonio Sam-something)

Minneapolis, you got the Mighty Ducks movies, (starring Emilio Estevez and that guy from Dawson's Creek). I like those movies.

Let's see now: Brisbane was the host to the 1982 Commonwealth Games, the site for World Expo 1988, and the Goodwill Games in 2000.  Added to that, bands like Savage Garden, The Saints, The Bee Gees, The Veronicas, and The Go-Betweens all come from here as well.  It is also where the main headquarters for Virgin Blue airlines are situated.

Winchester where i come from is the ancient capital of Britain and the home of King Arthur's round table (actually a 13th century copy, but hey not bad anyway.) It has Winchester Cathedral which is beautiful and Winchester College which is a famous and very very old private school. It has Wolvesey castle which dates back to the 12th century and Colin Firth comes from there. It's a nice place to visit and was good to grow up in.

When i use to live in Georgia, atlanta was famous for Coca Cola, and UGA bulldogs football. Cant forget about Ted Turner and his empire down there for TBS station, and the Atlanta Braves is huge when the baseball season is on and going. Then i also cant forget those yummy georgia peaches as well, there are some good ones down there...
