My buddy Sean came from Santa Monica today to visit us in Huntington Beach. We went for a swim in our pool downstairs (we live in a condo building). Anyway, all of a sudden he said he felt blue; turns out his girlfriend had dumped him over the weekend because, among other things, he "still looks like a boy, instead of like a man" (her words; he's about 18 1/2 years old), and "doesn't even have any chest hair." I thought that was a pretty stupid reason to give when dumping a friend. But then again, I'm going to be 18 next month and I'm totally smooth myself, not one hair on my chest, so I asked my girlfriend Jen her opinion on this boy/man thing, and she said she doesn't care one way or the other . Any thoughts about chest hair, anyone? Aaron

Count yourself lucky. I hate having chest hair myself though I don't mind it on other people. I have to wax and it is literally a pain. William

Personally, I have a very hairy chest, I'd never wax or shave it. Only drawback is you can't shave downstairs (which is becoming very popular now for guys) as it doesn't blend very well.

Thankfully, since I started getting waxed the hairs have grown back finer and much thinner which is great. William

I think women have a completely different mindset for this kind of thing than men do. We men might actually have an opinion one way or the other in terms of body hair on our women, while chances are our ladies really don't have a strong opinion either way. Am I right ladies? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I kinda like the smooth look, personally. However, I also think it's a pretty crappy thing to do to dump a guy just because he doesn't have chest hair yet. In my observation, most guys don't really start getting chest hair until they are closer to 20, or even past 20. If this girl seriously is that particular about her guy...I definitely wouldn't want to be her boyfriend, if I were a guy...obviously.

...his girlfriend had dumped him over the weekend because, among other things, he "still looks like a boy, instead of like a man" If she's that shallow, he's lucky to be rid of her. I suspect there were more important reasons that she didn't want to express. The most likely scenario is that she met a guy in his mid-twenties who seems more mature and seems more interested in a serious relationship. The hair on chest is just a metaphor.

Brandon, that was my first reaction, as well. That's why I wrote here, "I thought that was a pretty stupid reason to give when dumping a friend." But, as I mentioned, he said, "... among other things", so obviously it was not her only reason for dumping him. He didn't elaborate any further, though, and I didn't ask. Aaron

Well as for myself, I am not that hairy (naturally, due to genetics), but I do have some chest hair. Not sure what my wife's opinion on it is.
