OK, possibly a little off-topic, but... As I've noticed from other posts quite a few people on the forums seem to have piercings, including myself. I'm wondering how many here have had nipple piercings done, as I'm thinking of getting mine done sometime soon. I guess the main thing is, truthfully, does it hurt as much as people say? I've had my tongue pierced, lower lip, and OK they do tend to sting a little, but not hurt as such, and only for a couple of seconds, are the nipples any different to get done?
The other thing I'm curious about is that I've over winter put quite a lot of weight on (doesn't particular bother me) but was going to wait until I'd toned up a little again before going for the piercings... But have been thinking about this, and wondering maybe it would be better to get the piercings done first. From what I understand, piercings don't tend to hurt as much if you have a little extra 'padding' - which from an anatomy point-of-view I guess does make sence, as piercing through muscle (i.e. tongue piercing) does tend to hurt a little more than a navel piercing as it's through the muscle itself...
Will.

Baring one's soul is much easier when one is bare.

Hey Barefoot, I have had my nipples pierced in the past. The way I explain it to people is that it is REALLY painful for about 5 seconds, and then there is no pain at all after that. So, if you can deal with the 5 seconds, the rest is cake. About losing weight first, I don't think that will matter. I know that females have less pain associated with getting their nipples pierced, but it's not so much because of the extra padding there as it is the larger size of their nipples in general. More "flesh" to go through, less muscle tissue. That's just my thought on it anyway. I encourage you to do it, though, because aside from my penis piercing, my nipples were my favorite.

I have had my nipples pierced for a year and almost a month now. I can honestly say that when I got mine done, it wasn't painful really at all. During the actual piercing of them, it felt like a warm piece of metal sliding through my nipple (imagine that!). That awkward sliding feeling was definitely not what I was expecting, but was enough to make me take a gasp with both nipples. As o2bnude said, piercing female nipples is a bit different than piercing male nipples since the actual nipple is generally larger. With some male nipples, the piercer will have to pierce a little further into the areola than he/she would compared to a typical female nipple. I also feel that your sensitivity prior to piercing is a determining factor as to how much pain you'll feel during the actual piercing. For me, the most painful part was afterwards. There was a dull ache in my breasts, which would obviously heighten if I accidentally brushed against them or something touched them. However, once I got home (about an hour after the actual piercing) I took an OTC painkiller, which took care of the aching. After you get them pierced, be sure to be careful while showering, drying off, getting dressed and such. Definitely don't let your girlfriend play with them as that is a quick ticket to an infection and angry piercing. Sea salt soaks are awesome.
As for the weight issue, I don't think it matters much (but my nipples and ears are the only piercings I've ever had). I was mostly concerned about going back to kickboxing class after I got pierced, but as long as I had good supportive undergarments on, I was fine. I would suggest being pierced with barbells (I was pierced with 14g, 1/2" surgical stainless steel barbells.) as opposed to CBRs or circular barbells. Barbells seemed to be better for healing, in my case. Let us know how it goes!

Firstly, I'd like to say thanks for the info so far, and more will always be apreciated I've heard plenty of people say about using bars instead of BCRs, including my piercer, Sarge - it's a known fact they heal quicker. As for Stainless Steel, personally I'd go with Titanium, less likely to get any illergic reactions from titanium than steel, for almost any piercing. My main concern at the moment is work - I work in a fairly busy retail enviroment, and never get more than a couple of days off at a time to let things heal up when/if I do get them done... But we shall see!

I know its a free country and all, but the thought of putting a bar of steel through my nipples makes me wince, cringe, and cower. And not because of pain, or lack thereof. I don't think they improve with added decoration.
One question that applies ony to the women, tho. How does piercing affect your ability to feed the children of your body? I'm nowhere near ready to make babies, but that is one thing this natural girl won't jeopardize.

Hi Stacey Having your nipples pierced doesn't really adversely effect the actual ability to breastfeed your children. Due to the fistula that is formed through the nipple, there actually may be increased milk flow. The increase flow may cause problems for your child, and if it does you can always get a breast pump and bottle feed with breast milk. It's the milk that is most important in this case. You can still accomplish the cuddling while your child is nursing on the bottle. It is advised that a woman with pierced nipples take out the jewelry before feeding their child or pumping breast milk. (I would think that would be obvious, but you never know...takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.) For some women, keeping the piercings during pregnancy can be painful, due to the increased sensitivity of the breasts, so they may be removed. Although, the piercing may close before the child is weaned. However, some choose to keep them and deal with the cleaning and jewelry issues while the child is nursing. Regardless of whether or not you have pierced nipples, keep in mind that breast feeding isn't feasible for all mothers. Even some new moms that want to breast feed end up not being able to due to insufficient milk production or other reasons. Breast feeding is completely natural, and is (IMO) the best choice for a baby. But bottle feeding is a very close second with the formulas out these days! If/When that time comes for me, I would like to try to keep my piercings as well as breastfeed. I will definitely be registering for a breast pump for those baby shower attendees to consider! Oh, and it's fine for you to have your own opinion regarding piercings (as well as just about anything else) - just don't look down upon others for choosing to actively disagree with you.

I just did my left one the other night. All i did was take a large sewing needle and alcohol and it was easy. i have small nipples so it didn't take much but it really didn't even hurt at all. my tattoo hurt alot more.

I've been mulling over the idea of getting mine pierced. I did say I want to tone up first, something is still want to do. However I live at home with my grandmother, who is disgusted with piercings and tattoos (although I don't like tattoos (on me at least)). I have my ears gauged to an 8 (6 in a few days) and plan to go to 2 or 0. I like the idea of nipple piercings, but my main problem is I live at home, I'm sure some other people can understand
