I still use XP, and will probably continue to do so for quite some time. For one : it still works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's pretty much my attitude. I bought this computer seven months ago and could've updated to Vista for free if I'd wanted to, but XP Pro's been working fine, so I see no reason to change.

I don't intend to upgrade to Vista for a long time, if ever. I intend to switch to Ubuntu from XP some time soon too, because all XP has done is annoy me.

Well, for what it's worth, stick to Win XP...

I'm constantly advising customers at work to stay away from Vista.  As a lot have said, many drivers just aren't compatible, and a lot of hwardware just won't run Vista, especially if you decide to get anything above Home Basic.  The Areo desktop uses up so much memory and graphics it seems pointless!  Even my machine, custom built, fairly powerful PC designed for photography/graphics and some gaming has problems with Vista, even with 2GB Ram, and an 512mb ATi X1350 Pro graphics card, by the time Vista loads, I've got nearly nothing left for Photoshop!

Maybe next year when they have fully launched Windows Vista's first Service Pack, and I've gone up to 4gb ram, I might give it a shot again, lol!  Oh, and drivers...  Check, double check, and treble check that all your hardware has Vista drivers if anyone does decide to upgrade!  HP have even had some issues on the wireless cards on some of the laptops that were labeled as Vista Ready...  Great, huh?!

I just purchased a laptop with all the bells and whistles, including Windows Vista Ultimate. After I made good money playing cello at 10 funerals since
June 21st, at $200 per "event", I decided to get me something brand new,
instead of upgrading and fooling around with the old one; it doesn't have internet access so far, because I'll take it with me to Greece next week,
for almost a month, so I'll be out of the loop there.
Any good advice for me what to do and what not to do, as far as Vista
goes? Some of you must have experience with this new operating system,
so let's hear it, thank you. Aaron

Aaron, you might be inspired by the pictures of a nude cellist I added in the Felix d'Eon thread.

About the new computer... be sure to take a copy of the receipt with you to prove you purchased it in the US, just in case the Customs officer asks about it upon your return.

I thought just about all laptops have built-in Wi-Fi these days.

Thank's for the link, Brandon; I love to play my cello naked, I would say it even sounds
better  ^-^, But then again, when I play at funerals, being naked is not an option. The
funniest part (if I may say so) is when I play for more than ten minutes and people
start crying left and right, and then someone comes up to me and offers me more money
just to stop playing immediately. After some training I know how to make a swift, graceful
finale and the whole thing still sounds grandioso  Cheesy.

Mine does have WI-FI built-in, and integrated WWan which I use so far on the old
laptop my grandpa had given to me as a loaner, using Cingular 3G at home in
Huntington Beach. But as far as I understand WI-FI and Cingular 3G are not
available on Crete, so I decided to switch my SIM card once I'm back home end of
August. And a copy of my receipt is traveling with me, thank's for the reminder! Aaron
