So what's the big deal with body painting? It seems like naturism and body paints go hand in hand by what i've read, but what does putting paint on yourself have to do with being naked?

I guess people find it fun and the body is a great canvas! I have never done it myself but wouldn't object to someone painting me.

You don't have to be crazy to be a naturist, but you do have to show others your nuts!

That's a new one on me! Me too, Michael. Having said that, I can totally understand how it appeals to some. As was said you have a blank canvas, easily rubbed off.

Yeah, so can I Sara - I just don't really see that it has much (or anything) to do with naturism, per se.

http://naturistplace.com/nudity10.htm *shrugs* Seems to be one person's take on it, but as you said you've seen lots of sites that talk about it, maybe it's just something that's more popular elsewhere. Interesting that the author placed that article in the "Disorganized nudity" section though. Not sure what the thinking behind that was... I guess that I don't, personally, see it as being part of naturism because it's obviously an adornment - so it changes the concept of the thing, for me. Putting the paint on is similar to putting clothes on, in my mind - you see the paint and not the person, if that makes sense. Have to say that I've always associated it more with things like Fantasy Fest, etc - and I tend to see it as more of an erotic thing. I agree with what the linked article says, that " ...it need not be any more erotic than other, non-erotic forms of appreciation of the body for its own sake..." - but I feel that probably most of the time, it is! Just my personal feelings on it though.

I'd love to give it a go. I've seen some really cool pics of it online and some on some of them you can't even tell if they're naked! I've done quite a bit of modelling so I'd love to try body painting or casting.

Well, insofar as it's usually applied to a nude person, I guess it's sort of relevant... It seems like it was once (maybe still is) a popular thing at nudist venues, going by the nudist photos from the 60's that are floating around the net. But given that such photos aren't representative of nudism, I'm not sure it's safe to draw conclusions from that.

I haven't drawn this from pictures, most of the sites ive been to (not organizations) have pages/section just about body art, and a lot of events listed places include painting in the descriptions.

Not every naked activity is a naturist activity, in my book. I just don't see that the two "go hand-in-hand", not at all. Seems clear from this thread that there are naturists who are interested in body painting - but then there are obviously people who're interested in body painting who aren't naturists.

Well, as a little child my sister and me often had our faces painted at fun fairs, but—except from some words, little designs and so on by my neighbout at school—I have never been painted elsewhere. Wouldn’t object, though.

I would guess it's fairly inevitable that most naturists sites will talk about body painting to some degree. It is something that can clearly be done when folk are nude so has some connection.
But then, for instance in this site, we talk about loads of different stuff.
It's maybe just playing with words a bit, but I'd still definitely say they don't go "hand-in-hand". It's just something that I can clearly see appealing to some naturists so of course gets mentioned in naturist sites.
I just got the impression from the original post that Newman was almost suggesting that folk became naturists because of the body painting aspect which is certainly not the case. It is just as I said when you start thinking up things you can do nude, body painting inevitably gets mentioned.
