Although not a naturist story, this is still a shock to the system to know that other minorities are being marginalised by some corners of Australian society (in this case, the Caucasian males aged 18-25).

What do you all make of the recent attacks on Lebanese people in Cronulla?

Do you think it is a case of male, white, aussie, tough guy sydrome that so many guys have in australia? Or is it the Muslims fault for not assimilating?

As someone who was bullied mercilessly at school on account of my race, I think it is disgusting that this kind of stuff is tolerated in our society, and it seems to be our young men who are perpetuating the violence.
We need to live as one. Please God, let\'s have no more these or them!

Racism and xenophobia are ruining the country. No matter how much we might deny it, we live in one screwed up racist society, that will never overcome that problem!

Where are the trouble areas in Australia? Here in Brisbane, Darra/Inala (and occasionally West End) get the trouble card, but is that correct?

We should pray that God will soften the hearts of these aggressive perpetrators and to show some compassion and remorse for what they are doing to foreigners, and more importantly the image that this country has as a \'friendly, lucky country\'.

GRRRRR, you have touched an exposed nerve here Dario...

For those not in Australia, here is a few links that will give you an idea of what Dario and I are talking about:

How Aljazeera reported the incident

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/25392EAD-F120-4ACA-AF94-2C0E5D6BA23E.htm

Australian Press

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/strike-force-to-track-down-culprits/2005/12/12/1134235980738.html

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/what-is-australian-anyway/2005/12/12/1134235980386.html

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,17538321-29277,00.html

I don\'t usually openly in a forum as this discuss my beliefs but you have touched a sore point about the riots in Cronulla and Maroubra and I can\'t bite my tongue over this.

There are always two sides to a media story Dario, as a Sydneysider I have experienced the Lebs in Cronulla, and they need to learn RESPECT for other peoples culture (Aussie Culture), yes I can hear you saying we should respect their culture and I agree with you but there has to be a two way street Dario.

What started the riots in my opinion?

Well, I don\'t exactly know but I have a few ideas..

The weekend before last, two Australian Surf Lifesavers were bashed my Leb\'s because they asked them to leave the beach because of sexual harassment complaints.

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/printpage/0,5942,17466559,00.html

I experienced this at Cronulla Beach last year.

My girl friend and I were laying in the sun when three Lebs came up to us and said to me, Quote \" I would like to rape your woman\" end quote.

This is a common occurrence at Cronulla and Maroubra where Lebs not respecting the Aussie culture of simply having a relaxing day at the beach.

This has been going on for years at Cronulla and when you complain to the police, nothing is done about it. Why ? Because they are scared of being called racist.

Now we Australians do something about it, we are called racists?

There are three things that are destroying this world:

1. Religion
2. Guns
3. War

In my eyes all three are related, we all need to learn to RESPECT each others cultures and life together in harmony.

I have friends who live in Cronulla and I have some inside knowledge, this is not the end of the riots, the Lebs are planning revenge next weekend.

2. I have been to several Rugby games here in Sydney and only experience trouble when one of the teams I go to see is Canterbury, (Canterbury have a huge Leb following). Always the Lebs always want to cause fights.

Another example of not respecting aussie culture

In summing up:

I am not racists, nor do I believe there is a god, I don\'t push my beliefs onto anyone but something has to be done about the Lebs not respecting Aussie Culture, if the police won\'t  do anything who will ?

I took the time to read most of this as it made the CNN news here and there was video and a report from an Aussie journalist. She echoed Rob\'s note about this is certainly going to escalate.

I deplore violence, guns, radical right wing religion, war (Danielle, you DO live in America ..whats wrong with this picture).

However, Australia has such a wonderful society and culture and it is protected and cherished.

I agree completely with Rob.

It is the view of this member of the Association and personally? I think it SHOULD be the view of the YNAI.  Come to the country, immerse yourselves.  But, respect that country, learn the language and show respect or get out.

I own guns.  I enjoy target shooting with them.  I carry a .45 pistol on me almost all the time (yes, I have a permit).  I pray I never have to use it, but if the need arises where I am forced to protect my life or the life of my family with it, I would do so without hesitation.    I am also extremely liberal at the same time.  I beleive in rights for every minority, as well as individual rights.  I am for gay marraige, I am for open immigration policy.  I am against the \'war on drugs\' (we are losing that one).  I am against war unless it is defensive in nature.  I do not support the Iraq war, but I do support our troops.

I think that learning the laungage of this country should be done in time.  I think that when someone arrives in this country (or any other), their first priority is and should be putting a roof over their head and feeding their family, not neccessarrily learning the language.

As for what you stated being the official opinion of YNAI, I disagree.   I think YNAI needs to pick and choose its stand carefully, and should only have a stand on nudist issues.  AANR does not have an official policy on gun control, nor does the NRA (who i do not agree with) have a policy on nudity.

While I certainly disagree with your views on handguns, you have made me re-think my position and words as well.  I now agree with you.  You are right on the viewpoint we need to be careful on that.  I agree with most other points you made as well.  Your two cents are worth alot. Thanks GZ.

Rob,
I agree wholeheartedly with what you have to say. You took the words right out of my mouth. I too have experienced harrassment at Nth Cronulla beach from Lebs. I think part of the issue as well as lacking respect for our culture, is they also lack repect for the law. its truely laghable and thats how they treat it. the lebs laugh in the face of the cops because they know that the police are limited in their powers. The NSW state government in pushing laws to increase the penalties for rioting up to 3 times to 15 years imprisonment.
lets hope this is more of a detrrant to those who are causing the trouble.

Here we just tear gas em, arrest em by the bunch, and turn firehoses and dogs loose on them.  (rioters).

Seems to work quite well.  I think worst we have had is 3-4 days of riots, and then it was just rioters burning down their own neighborhood.

Me personally, if i were to go out rioting, i would make it a point to do it in someone else\'s neighborhood.

I fully agree with you GZ. As a gun owner I collect military surplus rifles for the historical value as well as target shooting.  I would hate to see the YNAI take this sort of stand on a completely non nudist issue.

OOPS, didn\'t see danee\'s post.

Hi again fellow YNAI\'ers

I think this post has gotten off trak a bit, this post has nothing to do with guns, or what YNAI as an association thinks about guns.

I simply replied to Dario\'s post on the Sydney riots, and stated that the view was my view, and not that of YNAI as an association.
