I am about to (i sure hope!) close on a 5 acre tract here in rural central/southern Florida. The property has frontage on the main road through the area, the road to get on it is curvy, the property is currently overgrown with trees and bushes, and has a 3/1 house, a 2/1 house, and 4 efficiencies 2/3 of the way back (real neat 70 year old houses, nice too). It has a big ol levee along two sides of it too.
Here is my idea: Since the trees make it impossible to see more than 2 feet onto the property, I am planning on putting a gate at the end of the drive (only way in, trees/brush is so thick, you cant walk through it), clearing out all the trees/brush in the main middle part of the property, the land behind the property and up one side has a 30 foot high levee, with a canal behind one, and sugarcane behind the other. The front side has the main road, and the last side has the brush, and a house that nobody lives in.
Anyway, my idea is a naturist/nudist retreat. Not really big enough to be a full blown resort, but just a cozy, first name basis place where you can go for a week or a weekend and relax in the buff. I plan on moving into the 3/1 house, turning the 2/1 into a small clubhouse, and renting out the 4 efficiencies. I also want to put a fence on the side with the house and behind the brush on the street. Put in a volleyball court, put in an above ground pool, a small shower enclosure, and a few lounge chairs near the pool. The 2 acres behind the houses and efficiencies has simply the largest avacado tree I have ever seen, right in the middle of a natural florida shaded hammock with a couple of orange and grapefruit trees. I plan on leaving that as is, with the exception of a path through it for a small relaxing nature walk area (sand walkway, easy on the wallet and feet). I figure there won\'t normally be more than 5-10 people there at any given time during the week, perhaps 25-30 on a weekend for day visits.
I plan on catering to a younger crowd and families (though the older crowd is certainly welcomed), as there WILL NOT be any shuffleboard, bocce ball, RV hookups (there are plenty of local RV parks for those interested in that), golf carts, elvis music, or pets. There is a boat ramp with access to Lake Okeechobee literally, out the front gate and across the street, so people can come and fish as well. There is also locally, fine wild hog and duck hunting (not my thing, but some like it). I also will pipe in newer music around the pool, and generally make it as upbeat as possible. A genuine fun place for people to visit.
I have a rough sketch of the land/usage at this link
http://www.floridaunified.com/nudeyland.html , as well as some pictures of the land/houses as it is now. Yes, it needs work, but the potential is there. Yall think I should go for it or just move into the house clean up the place and forget the whole idea?
