Okay, I thought I would come in and post a new topic so here goes. As you can tell by my profile, I like movies. The summer movie season has started and it has really let me down. Last year and the year before, there were really good movies coming out like every other week, and now...tsk tsk.
But noting is all bad. What good movies have you all seen this summer. Mine were Crash, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Batman Begins and War of the World. Come on and respond.
Be easy

I went and saw war of the world today, and frankly, I was a little dissapointed. Needed to be more widespread death and destruction... it was just missing something I cant put my finger on.
I would rate it a 4 out of 10. Star wars got a 6 out of 10, nice, but I knew how it would end (duh).
I want to see the willie wonka movie soon.

DUH, i forgot i saw Star Wars and that was one of the best I saw. WOTW was missing a little something but I would give it 7.5 out of 10.

While you are trying to find movies that we have seen that are good, I am going to do just the opposite. Top and I usually wait for movies to be released so then we can rent them....WAY cheaper than going to the theater....plus, being able to be comfortably nude is a plus. Anyways, while I was up in the northwoods visiting him, we had two options: sit out by a campfire (which we both would have loved to do) or go see a movie. When we discovered the cloth chairs were wet, we opted to go see a movie. MADAGASCAR....yes I know, it\'s a Disney movie, but hey, it looked really funny. However, I am disappointed to say that all of the funny parts are the ones they showed on the previews. So, don\'t waste your money if you don\'t have to. JoJo

I always hate it when the previews show all the (few) funny parts of a movie. I honestly dont go to the theater much, as the nearest theater to my house is a 30 mile drive each way, and its a small, old 3 room theater with poopy sound. When I go to the city, I will catch a movie at a nice new one, but otherwise, i prefer the home viewing. Why? Let me list the advantages:
I can drink a beer at home during the movie. I can pause it to go to the restroom. I dont have to turn off my cell phone. I can raid a fridge instead of paying $8 for a .75cent candy bar. I can watch the movie in the nude I can turn off the movie if its that bad, or change channels.
I could go on and on, but whats the point. I much prefer to watch them at home.

i think the best movie i have seen this year is Napolean Dynamite!! I have to take issue with you here Bryn & suggest that Diary of a Teenage Nudist was this year\'s best movie .... but, no doubt you\'ll remind me that it a) was aired late last year (except in Oz, last month!) & b) it isn\'t a movie. Mere technical details! DGC

I would have to say that Napolean Dynamite was boring and other than hearing people quote from it, it was a dumb movie. It amazes me how much of a hit it really is.

I hated Napoleon Dynamite with a passion. I watched it at my friend\'s house and I couldn\'t get over how boring it was. It was actually a struggle to watch it. I saw Batman Begins a couple of weeks ago and I loved it. It was so much different than the other Batman movies. I really liked it.

I have to agree with you two on napoleon dynamite. Poorly written, badly acted, and boring. I had it worse though, I have a 16 year old son who decided to quote the movie for about 2 months after the fact. Blech.

A long life film fan here, and a part time film critic for a local magazine. I know I am jumped in late for the conversation, but I\'ve got to admit that no other film this summer has impressed me as much as Batman Begins did. I\'ve originally written a 6-page feature for the magazine I work with and a detailed 2-page review for a message board when the film was out, so to spare you 8 pages of reading, here\'s the long and short: it\'s a well balanced film that perfectly melds action with character and drama, something that comic book films are accused of lacking, it is faithful to the comics to a great extent, the cast are superb and, not only are they some of the greatest living actors, but they also look like their comic book alteregos, partiularly Bale who bears an uncanny resemblance in both appearance and spirit to Bruce Wayne, Chris Nolan\'s gracefully steered away from the campy dreariness the film series has descended into, restoring the dark, gloomy atmosphere of the modern Batman comic books and making Batman a realistic and plausible hero- the reason why Batman became so popular in the first place. Best film of the year.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was another superbly entertaining film, and there\'s no wonder why it shouldn\'t be. I\'ve always been a fan of Tim Burton\'s visual style, infact, his 1989 Batman was the reason why I became a fan of Batman in the first place, and Charlie is one of Burton\'s best works; it\'s \'eye candy\' in every sense of the word. Add to the mix Johnny Depp\'s quirky comedy antics, and one of the most celebrated children\'s books, and you\'ve got a two hour piece of childish, yet nevertheless highly entertaining cinema.

Batman Begins was oe of the best films I\'ve seen of all time, and I wasn\'t as much of a Batman fan previously! Christian Bale was perfect for that role.
