Does anyone know about any swimming holes, nude beaches, etc in their hometown (or within an hour or two's travel) that they'd like to recommend? I live near Seattle, Washington and enjoyed going to the beach at Denny Blaine Park on Lake Washington. I would also recommend the Olympic Hot Springs in the Elwha river valley in the Olympic Mountains. Until summer 2014 the main access road is closed, but if you're willing to hike 14 miles from the next valley over, it's well worth it.

Why would the main access road be closed until 2014?

In the northeast there's several swimming holes/nude spots I've found through a site called netnude, and swimmingholes.org. Though the best one I'd recommend (besides a nudist resort) would probably have to be the Ledges in Vermont, which is about 2 hours from me. It's a reservoir tucked away in the southern Green Mountains, and along the reservoir there's several long boulders sticking out into the water, and several little spots in the woods next to the water to lay out and sun, swim, or socialize. The whole area is maybe a half mile long, and is a really awesome peaceful place. Although I'll warn you if you're a single male there by yourself, you may get hit on by gay men. It's happened to me, and it's kind of annoying.

Nudity is also legal anywhere in VT, so if you're ever in the northeast, check out VT! But of course I wouldn't recommend walking around naked ANYWHERE there. I've done some nude hiking there, though I'll still go out of my way to not be seen (just like anywhere), and I figure even if I'm caught, at least I'm not breaking any laws. It sucks that the warm season is so short though.

Weasel head flats in Calgary. Prodominantly gay though and tha area is known for some predictors gays. You should never go alone naked anytime if you can help it. No sense in putting yourself at higher unnecessary risk. Clubs area safer when you are alone and want to be so vulnerable. Just a few thoughts.

The access road is closed because a dam is being demolished in the Elwha river valley and they don't want people going through the area when there is demolition going on. Unfortunately, the road passes right next to the dam itself. You can read about it here http://www.nps.gov/olym/naturescience/dam-removal-blog.htm . The goal of the project is to return the river to a more natural state that existed before the dam, and to restore salmon runs.

Thanks for the tip about Vermont. Nude hiking without the threat of prosecution sounds like fun. As for the swimming hole, is it mostly populated by gay men, or are there women or families there occasionally? If it is just gay men, then it may be more of a cruising area than a nudist spot. If it's the benign kind of propositioning, I can handle it. If there are people meeting to go have sex in the bushes, I probably wouldn't want to go.

Do you mean predatory gays? What kind of risk would I be taking? I don't think I would want to go to this place alone.

Auto spell correct on my phone. What you said. Illicit sexual and drug activity occurs in that area. Be careful where you go.

I'd say it's mostly populated by mixed groups of friends, couples, singles, and I rarely see children there. I'd say there's maybe 30% women there most of the time, sometimes more, sometimes less. When you first get there the woods open out to a wide open area with a small sandy beach and lots of rocks along the shore, where you'll find most of the people I just mentioned. Following the trail northbound along the reservoir (where there's not much space between the woods and water) is basically the "gay section". But it's a legit popular nudist spot and definitely not a cruising area. If you're out in the large open area people are generally polite and won't bother you if you don't want to be bothered.

In that case it sounds like a nice spot. I'll go there if I'm ever in the area. Thanks
