This may seem early to be starting a topic on the WNBR for 2011, however the first planning meeting for the Brighton WNBR is being held on Wednesday 2nd February and as far as I am aware WNBR's are being held in the Southern Hemisphere in mid-March. From my short time on this forum, I have found several topics where members describe either having attended a WNBR, or wishing to do so. I myself have participated in the Brighton and London WNBR's since 2008. Through this thread I hope that it may offer the chance for organisers, past riders, prospective riders, and those intersted in the concept of the WNBR to discuss this years upcoming rides and possibly offer some suggestions on improvements to the ride, whether from an environmental perspective, naturist perspective or a mixture of both. If there is enough interst in this topic I hope to create seperate WNBR topics that will focus on the WNBR's for each country.

Regards,
Thomas

Great idea! I'm planning to take part in at least one of the rides in The Netherlands (Amsterdam on June 11th, Arnhem on June 18th).

I did the ride in Melbourne, Australia last year. So good.
It'll be happening again in Australian cities this coming March.
Highly recommend it.
Its not every day you can get away with riding a bike naked along a busy urban street!
And of course its a great way of promoting cycling, whilst making motorists more aware of our presence, as well as our vulnerability.

I fully agree with you JA, that nudity can be a really effective means of showing our vulnerability to the traffic but also that nudity has the power to shock people and consequently engage their attention in the cause we are trying to promote. The effectiveness of nudity is something that really intersts me as for naturists and pariticpants in the ride, nudity is a non issue, yet it has a strong impact on the people viewing the ride. If one ignores the few problem photographers at the start, the public reaction to the ride is mostly very positive and it enables them to feel like they are part of the protest just by cheering us on. If you are planning on participating this year, I hope you have a great time. I myself am eagerly looking forward to June 11th, the provisional date for the London WNBR.

Come to think of it, my own city would be ideal for a WNBR. It's a very progressive, bike-friendly city with a lot of young people (mainly students) who are generally very social and environmentally aware.
Most of them might not want to drag their bikes all the way to Arnhem or Amsterdam, so a ride in their home town would be perfect.
If I had the time and the means to organize, I'd start right away.

So I did the ride in Melbourne last Sunday, my second one. It was a lot of fun. I highly recommend anyone to do it if your city is yet to have it this year. Check out this page for photos & videos of the Melbourne ride (thats me blowing a kiss to the camera in the 4th vids) http://www.asbareasyoudare.com/?page_id=439
