I've been wondering lately, are we going through a slowdown in younger people taking an interest in naturism?

I say this as being an active member of YBN it seems that although, and don't get me wrong, there are new young people coming into naturism, it seems that the level of interest has fallen recently. When I went to Lanzarote recently there seemed to be very few, if any, young naturists on the beach and there doesn't seem to be as many when YBN goes to the various clubs either, apart from the YBN members themselves!

So I was just wondering if it was just me who thinks this or whether or not other people feel the same too and why this might be? Is it just in the UK? Is interest growing in Europe, US and Australia? I'd be interested to know. Nudity is still in films, advertising and music videos so nothing seems to have changed there, so perhaps attitudes have changed?

I've often wondered if you could get any legitimate interest from universities but my thoughts have always been that it would be very problematic to disassociate sex from nudity in that environment.

So what does everyone think? Where do you think naturism for the younger generation is heading?

I've actually noticed the opposite - the last few times I've gone out to the beach, I've seen a lot more younger nudists then there used to be.  Some college age, many couples in their 30's and some families with kids.  There is still the older generation of nudists, but it seems like they don't hold as much of a majority any more.

I try to go out once a week, by myself or with friends, and the number of younger people seems to be increasing which is quite promising.  It could be because of the area that I live in, since folks around here are really open-minded about things like nudism, but I certainly hope that the trend continues in other regions!

 agree
Yes, blober. I've seen the same thing here in NZ and hope the trend continues. I'll be posting more about a NZ Young Naturist's society I'm trying to set up with my gf soon to help it along down here. I think the best way to help it along is to set up something like that yourself. You don't really need endorsement from a Uni or something, endorsement will eventually come if you're genuine.

Hmmm... good to hear that things are improving over the pond. Maybe it's a UK thing?

I would have to agree with you Pyre, that Naturism amongst young people has decreased as a phenomenon in recent years. My interpretation would be that the largest group of naturists, the over 50's, grew up in an age when social nudity was both more acceptable and popular. Large scale social nudity started off through protests, and consequently came into the public domain through notable festivals such as Woodstock and Nambassa. Today there are still young people who are interested in naturism, as can be seen by this forum and YBN, but in my opinion its reach into the consensus of young adults is much much smaller than a generation ago.

I think um, it depends where you go.

I think the closer you go to cities the more comercialisation and 'sex sells' opinions you get, and with that intention maybe a little fear of nudism without associating it to sex. But there is a lot of hipocriticalities and perfectionism more than there used to be. So maybe people are just embaressed?

I'm thinking of Happy Days vs Two and a Half Men. Seems like some shows are just built to drive embaressment and fears. hardpoke

I don't know. Was it very common in the past for younger people? My thought was that the older naturists didn't start off young, rather got a later start.
