when i first started into the nudist thing it was very difficult to find anything about nudism. I kept finding discusting sexual images that i never wanted in my mind.  Because of this i believe that many people are turned off nudism. How can we fix this problem. How do we convince people that nudism doesn't equal sex if that is what they find first. I don't have any solutions but want to here opinions about this. Until next time, keep nude, Jon. Smiley

You should have started in Wikipedia instead of Google. Tongue

I don't have the answer either. Google is actually pretty good about avoiding sexual images if you have your safe searching preference set to Moderate. (Of course, once you start clicking links on the page you find in Google, who knows what you will find.)

If Google directs every search on the word "nude" to legitimate naturist sites like this, we will get a ton of people looking for porn arriving here. We don't really want that.

Educating the general population about naturism, and using the word naturism instead of, or along with, the word nudity, helps. I hadn't even heard the words "naturist" or "naturism" until someone from this forum posted about the topic on a general teen forum I belonged to. If we can educate people (e.g. on facebook, or on other forums we belong to) about naturism, that will help.

Getting back to the search engine issue, an interactive search engine might help. For example, when someone types in "nude" or a similar search term, the search engine could ask, "Are you looking for sexual nudity, nudity in art, or information about nudist (naturist) culture and recreation?"

Apparently you can pay to have your website associated with certain keywords.  I wonder if AANR or TNS already do this, but I didn't see any advertisements for them just now.

I've also heard of ways where a bunch of people can make websites to take advantage of search engine algorithms and make one website show up much higher in the list.

agree  I'm pretty disappointed that internet search still consists of throwing individual words at the search engine and wading through results.  There's no way to establish context.  Also, I find that search engines more and more are assuming, essentially, that I'm an idiot, and then "correct" what I enter.  I search for obscure things, so when I type BCH I really mean BCH, I don't mean beach.

In some ways, I find Wikipedia to be a better search engine than Google.  Because then you have people who know things about particular subjects linking to sites which they know are important and relevant.  Much better results than having countless computers trying to understand human communication (which is nearly impossible, at least at this time).

AANR and TNS absolutely have certain words embedded as metatags in their websites, so whenever someone searches a nudist related topic, their websites will show up in the search results. Most national organizations will have a webmaster to maintain their website's search engine optimization. I have a little experience with this, as I've done some work with my company's website.

Unfortunately, as for finding sex-related sites when you're trying to find nudist info, I think it may be impossible to separate the two on the web, since I'm sure there's people out there looking for "naked/nudist images" for sexual reasons, and several of the search terms they type into google or yahoo or whatever may overlap with the words that genuine nudist sites use to show up in search engine rankings. And you know that the "sex" websites are using some of the same search words as the nudist sites to get that niche of the web to come to their sites.

i both agree, and disagree.

I agree, that there is a lot of porn out there. When i first started nudism, porn sites came up almost all the time. So, like u say, u have to put in specific words - such as nudism, naturism, social nudity etc....

Yahoo! Search is better than both google and wikipedia, i find. When u type in ur query, a drop down  box appears to give u hints/advice/help on what to search. Also, with a special download (apparently) u can get it to block off all sex sites, but not sites such as www.purenudism.com or www.nudistbare.com . Only the porn sites get blocked.

The drop down boxes in search engines can be really cool, but they actually still appear for you when you type in nudist related queries? Maybe it's different in the UK. When I type "nudist" or "social nudity" into google and yahoo, the drop down box appears at first, but before I'm finished typing the word, the drop down will disappear...but normally it will stay there for whatever you type in. I guess the search engines don't want to help you search specific topics!

no - if u type something com,on in, such as ynai, then it will show u in the drop box the extra links for the web search question. However, sometimes it happens for less common searches. I think u can change it in your yahoo settings, if you have an account.
