Open a bank/checking account in Argentina?

Would it be possible to open a checking/bank account anywhere in Argentina without ever traveling to Argentina and wire transfer money that I have my current checking account to my checking account in Argentina?

Ummmmm..... any particular reason? Wait, no, I don't want to know.....

My sister works in banking so I can ask her, but I'd guess that some sort of identification and signature verification would be required there.....

If you have some person there already, it should be easy enough to open a mutual account. However in most cases you have to be physically there. However you can set it up to have all your money in an account here ready to be wired to you when you go over to open an account. I'm assuming there's nothing covert going on here, I'd hate to be aiding some scheme.

I have an aunt who lives there and the location where I plan to wire transfer.

Not to be too nosey, but by any chance are you wiring the money to your aunt? If so just get her account information and wire it directly to her account. You *might* be able to get added to an account of hers (authorized user) without actually being there.....

I did ask my sister and she had no idea what the requirements are for Argentina. She knows *all* about the banking system in the USA but not worldwide.....
